How long does it take to build a pool?

Different pools take different amounts of time to build based on a variety of factors – building material, size, contour, and even weather. We can give you an estimate as to how long your pool might take to build when we provide your free estimate.

What is the standard size for a swimming pool?

Swimming pools can come in all shapes and sizes. Deep Blue Inc can install rectangular swimming pools, oval pools, and even pools with fancy designs and curves. As a result, there is no standard size. However, most rectangular swimming pools are roughly twice as long as they are wide. Dimensions may be 10’x20’, 15’x30’, 20’x40’, and so on. The depth of swimming pools will also vary, typically starting at 3’ and increasing to up to 10’ or more. Space and intended usage will inform your decision on swimming pool size.

How long does the average swimming pool last?

The life expectancy of an in-ground swimming pool will differ from one style to the next. A vinyl swimming pool should last 5-10 years, while a concrete pool will last 10-15 years, and a fiberglass pool should last up to 25 years with proper maintenance. The gelcoats on modern fiberglass pools eliminate any refinishing needs. However, a concrete pool will need resurfacing after roughly a decade and a vinyl liner will need to be replaced sooner than that.

Do I need to drain my pool annually?

No. It is not recommended to completely drain your pool in Salt Lake City every year. With the cold temperatures that sweep through Utah, leaving your pool partially filled will help protect it. An empty pool is vulnerable to cracking, shifting, or being dislodged as a result of pressure from groundwater.

Are pool chemicals able to be used for multiple seasons?

Pool chemicals have expiration dates, and it is best only to use your pool chemicals before they have expired.

Does chlorine prevent all recreational water illnesses (RWI)?

Chlorine is effective at killing germs that make people sick. However, it is essential to monitor chlorine levels and allow them time to produce their intended benefits. The chemical can kill the majority of germs that cause recreational water illnesses in mere minutes but will take longer for parasites such as Cryptosporidium, which can survive for days even in water that has been properly disinfected. To ensure chlorine reaches its full germ-killing potential, keep your swimming pool free of debris and practice good hygiene before taking a dip.

How do I keep debris from floating on top of my pool?

Deep Blue Inc can equip you with materials to help keep your swimming pool pristine. The first accessory you will need is a leaf rake. It can be used to remove floating debris that has drifted away from the edges. It is good practice to also trim any bushes or trees that may be producing leaves or twigs that end up in your pool. Furthermore, we can provide chemicals that keep your pool’s surface tension high and causes small debris to move to the sides of your swimming pool to be collected in the skimmers.

How do I measure water evaporation from my swimming pool?

The aptly-named bucket test will help you measure water evaporation. The test involves placing a five-gallon bucket on the second step of the pool and filling it to match the water level. The pool and bucket will lose water from evaporation and gain water from rainfall at the same rate. Barring any splash-out, you will know that your pool leaks if its level drops more than the water level in the bucket.

Do I need a safety fence around my pool?

Local building codes and homeowners’ association rules will be used to determine if you are required to erect a fence around your pool in the Salt Lake City Metro Area. But common sense dictates that it is a necessity. A fence will make your swimming pool exponentially safer and provide peace of mind, especially if there are children or pets in your family or neighborhood. The fence should be secured with locks to maximize its utility.

How much does it cost to install an in-ground pool?

The cost to install an in-ground swimming pool will vary significantly based on numerous factors, but the professionals at Deep Blue Inc will explain the whole process so you can make the right decision for your Salt Lake City Metro Area home. The price will depend on your pool’s size, location, materials used to construct the lining, and any additional features. The expected costs of the three main types of inground pools are:

  • Vinyl – The initial installation cost of a vinyl pool will be $35,000-$55,000. However, you can expect to pay roughly $11,500 in 10-year maintenance costs with this type of shell.
  • Concrete – Installing a concrete swimming pool will cost anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000. Additionally, it carries a 10-year maintenance cost expectation of more than $25,000.
  • Fiberglass – A versatile fiberglass swimming pool will cost $45,000-$85,000 to install. However, this style requires less than $4,000 in 10-year maintenance costs on average.

Other factors to consider when installing an in-ground pool are add-ons such as heaters and covers, as well as any routine repairs that may come as a result of your style choice. Deep Blue Inc can expertly service any in-ground pool type should an issue arise.

What swimming pool safety issues should I consider?

Pool safety is of paramount importance for even the most advanced swimmers. Issues to consider ensuring swimming pool safety include:

  • Do not leave children unattended in or near your swimming pool.
  • Never leave pool gates open. Install self-closers where necessary.
  • Do not leave your pool empty for an extended period.
  • Install Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) where appropriate.
  • Ensure proper installation of insulators in timer boxes.
  • Call the professionals at Deep Blue Inc if you notice water in your swimming pool’s lighting or need any other services or repairs.
